i agree. i am drifting between 'blue' and 'pink'. i think i was more 'pink' in my previous job, then need 'blue' color to get the work "really" done. now, i am mostly 'get the job done' and need 'pink' occasionally. a lot of time - the color changes depending on the situation/issue/audience. nonetheless, there are a few successful 'pink' ladies in my previous sales support organization. also, an older coworker once told me, "you want to do a good job so your manager can feel proud of you, i.e. you are helping your manager to promote the team (you are the known key player for good work)." i totally agree that one cannot ASSUME that the manager knows what's his/her direct report is doing ... a manager could be very busy ... and forgot about the great contribution after a week/a month/a year.
